9. 190324 façade
Subtle angles, reflections and gradients unfold across the works of this installation that explores urban architectural experiences of London.
Utilising a visual language of minimalist, geometric abstraction, works articulate the structural features and industrial materiality of London’s soaring, multi-layered skyline.
Aluminium sheets have been cut, folded and painted to create a series of quasi-architectural components. At first glance, these forms may appear simple but upon closer inspection a meticulously layered, painted surface emerges.
Moving through the space plays out as a dynamic dialogue between component, surface and surrounding context. Metallic and painted edges align and connect, correspond and overlap as aluminium surfaces reflect and extend space. Light is integral to the installation, acting as a catalytic element for surfaces which shift and change as viewers change position.
Exploring the capabilities of material and paint, ‘façade 190324’ orchestrates a visual experience that is synonymous with moving through built space : an encounter where one bears witness to the phenomenal interaction between light and material, form and colour, reflection and shadow.
